BAND HISTORY
Lilia, Eugene and Chua Yingtze started morphy in 2001 in a tiny jamming studio near Macpherson with a small collection of songs about observations in life.
Over time, the number of songs grew steadily and morphy began recording in 2002 with the help of Rick Smith and John Chan from Chromazone Studios.
Drawing on a diverse range of musical influences, the band developed their songs over two years culminating in their 13-track debut album titled Pink Ashes. The album featured a live recording of Crack with British musician, Matthew Rodgers who met Lilia in Edinburgh and other guest musicians from the Singapore music scene.
The band, by now a quartet with lead guitarist Alexius Cai, launched their album independently on the 25th August 2004 where they played to a packed audience at the Guinness Theatre, The Substation.
Since then, morphy has quietly continued on its musical journey occasionally surfacing from its explorations of sound and emotion to tease the edges of the local music scene. They played a series of evening performances at the Esplanade in 2005 and two gigs at Bar None in 2004 and 2006.
Over the years, the band has evolved to include different musicians and their gig at the Arts House in August 2007 saw the band expand to a sextet with Eugene (Bass/Keyboards), Lilia (vocals/guitar), Alexius Cai (guitars), Chua Yingtze, Tay Yanbing, Jeanette Wong (Percussions).
In 2010, morphy released their second album just like breathing, introducing a new band member - British guitarist Tim Lloyd.
